Dear friends, chers amis,
Over the course of the spring, I had the priviledge and the pleasure to continue fostering relationships with our American partners in multiple areas, including climate change, energy and trade, but also education and the arts.
Given the proximity between Québec and New England, it is only natural that we work together on issues of common interest, such as clean energy and climate change. With the Government of Québec being dedicated to regional efforts to fight climate change, we welcome the endorsement of hydropower by major Massachusetts’ media outlets, environmental organizations and chambers of commerce as a solution for New England’s clean energy future.
This future is an opportunity for shared economic development, as highlighted by several major trade and innovation shows on both sides of the border. Montréal is hosting the World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS29), the largest international electric vehicle conference, on June 19-22, 2016. Several Québec companies will meet with American partners at HydroVision in Minneapolis (July 26-29) and Power Generation Week in Orlando (December 13-15). Like the electric grid, the clean economy does not know borders!
In May, we welcomed two groups: students of French from UMass Lowell, and students of finance from École polytechnique de Montréal. These conversations with tomorrow’s leaders from both sides of the border show how our relationship takes many shapes and forms, from history and language to innovation in finance and engineering.
Cultural exchange is another form of this relationship. Join us this summer for two fantastic circus shows: Cirque du Soleil – Kürios Cabinet of Curiosities and 7 Fingers – Cuisines and Confidences, as we are preparing the celebrations for Québec Day 2016!
À bientôt,
Marie-Claude Francoeur
