Québec - United States University Grant Program

This grant program is aimed at promoting and expanding Québec studies in American universities and colleges.

Description

More specifically, it is designed to support academic activities on Québec in the United States, to stimulate collaboration between universities in Québec and the United States, to organize Québec-themed academic activities, and to facilitate professional and student exchanges.

The Québec – United States University Grant Program arose from merging the Québec research initiative program with the Québec Studies Program of the Minister of International Relations and la Francophonie (MRIF).

The latter is organized in two parts, with categories and themes specific to each component which are as follows:

Component 1 - Research, innovation, and knowledge development
Component 2 - French culture and language

Component 1 - Research, innovation, and knowledge development

All projects submitted under this grant program must fall under one of the two components and must be accompanied by an application form.

Project categories:

  • Conference assistance and guest speakers (or artists)
  • Support for the development of courses on Québec
  • Grants for professors and researchers
  • Support for initiatives on Québec

Targeted themes:

  • Bilateral relations between Québec and the United States
  • The economy and bilateral trade
  • Border security
  • The environment and the fight against climate change
  • Energy and natural resources
  • Immigration and labor mobility
  • Comparative public and economic policies
  • Québec’s international relations and diplomacy
  • Artificial intelligence and digital technology
  • Aerospace

Conference assistance and guest speakers (or artists)

This category is aimed at encouraging the organization of conferences and/or the hosting of guest speakers (or artists) on the themes targeted in components 1 or 2. The activity may be held as a conference or as part of a university course.

This category aims to encourage university research on Québec at American universities, relating to the themes targeted in component 1 or 2. The grant will serve to cover the costs related to the drafting of an article-length manuscript publishable in a university journal, or the drafting of a chapter of a book slated to be published.

  • The establishment of a scholarship program for students wishing to study in Québec
  • Study abroad programs in Québec for students, allowing for university credits
