The MAGIC trade show, an initiative of UBM Fashion, is the largest fashion trade show in North America. Aurélie Brown of the Québec Government Office in Los Angeles was there from February 12 to 14, 2018.
Did you know? The fashion sector in Québec generates $8 billion in annual sales of manufactured assets and clothing from wholesalers-distributors. With more than 1,850 stakeholders (manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and creators), this industrial sector in Québec employs around 28,000 workers, or 48% of the sector's jobs in Canada. When we add in retail jobs across the province, we can count 83,000 workers. This creative sector is therefore an important component of Québec’s economy.
Following an initiative by the Government of Québec, the Metropolitan Fashion Cluster (Grappe mmode) was created in 2015 to showcase Montréal's leadership in this area. This is the Fashion Cluster’s first presence at MAGIC. Ms. Dominique Anglade, minister of Economy, Science, and Innovation, led the mission and took this opportunity to promote the know-how of Québec companies and help position Montréal as an industry hub.
Québec's expertise shone brightly at MAGIC, with more than 80 companies promoting their products, such as clothing for women, men and children as well as shoes, accessories and jewelry. At the heart of the fair was Mtl Gallery, a true showcase of Québec creation and a meeting place for companies participating in the mission.
