Québec City, September 16, 2015 – The Minister of Economy, Innovation and Exports, Jacques Daoust, announces the imminent opening of a new Expansion Québec business establishment centre in Houston, Texas.
“Backed by a highly diversified economy and a growth rate that is among the highest in the Western world, Texas is our largest trading partner in the United States, with a total trade volume of $11.5 billion, and our second biggest export market, with a peak of $3.6 billion in 2014.
Opening this new Expansion Québec business centre will enable Québec businesses to set up and expand their commercial presence in this extremely attractive and extraordinarily active market,” said Jacques Daoust.
Expansion Québec will work in close collaboration with Export Québec and the upcoming Québec Trade Office in Houston to provide long-term assistance to Québec entrepreneurs who are seriously considering this major market.
With a GDP of nearly $1,500 billion in 2014, the Texas market is equivalent to that of all of Canada, excluding Québec, since Canada’s GDP that same year was $1,800 billion while Québec’s was $310 billion. It is therefore essential to develop this market.
Texas is a major industrial leader in the United States and is recognized as fertile ground for companies operating in such sectors as aeronautics, transportation, energy, construction, multimedia, information technology and medical technologies. It has also become the second most important incubator for innovative businesses, after California.
“Québec’s know-how and expertise in these fields are recognized the world over. The revitalization of our economy hinges in large part on the ability of our businesses to innovate and export. By expanding their consumer pool and increasing their competitiveness, they ensure their sustainability,” added Minister Daoust.
Created in 2011 at the initiative of the Québec government, Expansion Québec is a non-profit organization that offers Québec SMEs tailor-made services concerning domiciliation, office rental and guidance aimed at supporting them at each step of their business development and facilitating their establishment abroad. As a result, businesses can minimize costs and associated risks. The Houston business centre will join Expansion Québec’s offices already operating in Calgary, Dakar, London, Mexico City, New York, San Mateo and Sao Paulo.
