The world-renowned playwright and film director Robert Lepage will present his last film “Triptych” in US Premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival that will run January 3o through February 9. The film is co-directed by Pedro Pires.
Triptych is a contemporary urban saga that tells the story of Michelle, a schizophrenic bookseller, her sister Marie, a singer and actress, and Thomas, a German neurologist and Marie’s future husband. The film is a cinematographic adaptation of Lipsynch, directed by Robert Lepage, and was presented at TIFF last summer.
“Gabrielle” by Louise Archambault is the other Quebec film at this 29th edition of the festival. Selected as Canada’s candidate in the Oscars’ best foreign-language film category, it tells the story of Gabrielle, a musically gifted young woman, who lives in a home for persons with intellectual disabilities. Attracted to a boy who sings in her choir, she dreams of independence but quickly comes up against her own limitations and ignorance of the outside world.
The film won the Audience Award at last year’s Locarno Film Festival.
