"Gabrielle" by Quebec filmmaker Louise Archambault has been chosen to represent Canada at the Oscars. It’s the story of a young woman in her twenties who has Williams syndrome, and wants to live a "normal" life like her older sister.
The movie will take on a long journey that could lead to a nomination in the category of Best Foreign Language Film at the upcoming Academy Awards, to be held March 2, 2014.
The movie had its World Premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where it won the Audience Award, and its North American Premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
