Los Angeles/Silicon ValleyWar Witch from Montreal-born director Kim Nguyen is among the 9 finalists for the Oscar for best foreign-language film, the Academy announced today.
The film paints a poignant and harrowing portrait of Komona, a 14-year-old girl (wonderfully played by nonprofessional actress Rachel Mwanza) who has been kidnapped from her African village by rebels to become a child soldier.
The list of nine will now be whittled down to 5 finalists that will be unveiled on January 10. The Academy Awards take place in Hollywood, on February 24.
