Quebec has shone in Los Angeles during the American Film Market (AFM) and the American Film Institute Festival (AFI FEST), which both took place in the World capital of cinema, from October 31, to November 8, 2012.
During AFM, a delegation of fifteen companies conducted a trade mission led by the Office of Film and Television (QFTC). The event is a must to attract filming in Quebec and to increase the development of markets for the Quebec film industry.
On the AFI FEST side, three films from Quebec were presented to conquered audiences: Laurence Anyways, from Xavier Dolan, Rebel (War Witch) from Kim Nguyen, and the short film Leader of the Pack from Chloé Robichaud. The festival is an excellent visibility opportunity for Xavier Dolan and Kim Nguyen films, who are engaged in the race for the Golden Globes and the Oscars.
In addition, the Quebec Delegation in Los Angeles (DQLA), along with QFTC and the Quebec Association of Los Angeles held an important networking event at the AFM, which was attended by over 120 members of the Quebec and US film industry. At the AFI, DQLA was the partner of Telefilm Canada for a reception at the famous Roosevelt Hotel in honor of director Kim Nguyen in order to build the buzz for the film in the Oscars race in the industry and the press.
Let’s not forget that the AFM is the largest market in the world film industry, which includes 400 companies from production and distribution, and more than 8000 delegates from 70 countries. AFI FEST is, itself, the most prestigious film festival in Los Angeles. It launches the Awards season in Hollywood.
