Quebec at MINExpo 2012 : Big Equipment, Big Results

With nearly 50 exhibiting vendors and hundreds of senior company representatives in attendance, Québec boasted one of the largest international delegations at MINExpo 2012. The world’s largest mining trade show, held every four years, took place in Las Vegas September 24 – 26.

The strong showing at MINExpo was a reflection of the booming mining industry in Québec, where mineral production surpassed $9.1 billion in 2011, an increase of more than 150% in the past decade. Investment in the sector has even outpaced production growth since 2001, increasing 163% to reach $3.2 billion last year.

Québec exhibitors at MINExpo 2012 showcased a full range of equipment, technologies, services and solutions for mining exploration, excavation and safety. Many companies demonstrated break-through innovations, such as VISI+, a vehicle-mounted system that improves visibility in smoky or blizzard rescue operations, developed by researchers at Québec’s renowned optics institute INO.

Ten exhibitors from Québec took advantage of the 48e Nord International exhibition space located in the CAMSESE pavilion, where attendee traffic was especially brisk. According to Claude Thibault, who heads the economic promotion agency head-quartered in the heart of the Québec mining industry, “Our companies were very impressed with the buyer attendance and interest we saw at MINExpo, and many are expecting very big results.”

The Québec Government Office in Los Angeles and the Quebec Ministry of Economic Development have collaborated to set up the mission.
