On September 1, 2012, the Bombardier CL-415 "Super Scoopers" arrived in Los Angeles County for their 19th season and just in time to begin responding to brush fires in the Los Angeles area.
Since the Topanga fire that killed 3 people and destroyed more than 400 homes back in 1993, the "Super Scoopers" and their crews have been valuable allies of the Los Angeles County Fire Department with their quick response and ability to deliver large quantities of water and firefighting foam. They can scoop up more than 1,600 gallons of fresh or salt water in just 12 seconds.
According to Battalion Chief Anthony Marrone, "Chief Pilot, Carl Villeneuve and his team have been coming to Los Angeles to risk their lives for people they do not even know and over the years they have really become part of our Los Angeles firefighting family."
