Parc Jean-Drapeau is proud to welcome - a Snow Village which has a hotel, restaurant, replicas of familiar buildings and lighted snow tunnels to explore all winter long. This Finnish concept attraction allows visitors to enjoy a unique Montréal-winter experience. The Snow Village ties in nicely with the Parc's winter program.
Construction of the Village is expected to begin around mid-December, or later depending on the temperature. The Snow Village will officially open in January.
Lisette L receives more celebrity endorsement since Kathie Lee and Hoda first raved about them on Today. Oprah recently featured them in her eponymous magazine saying that she loved the slim-fitting pants so much at a photo shoot, she took them home to wear. Lisette L was featured in the Oct. 13th edition of O, The Oprah Magazine. Lisette L’s headquarters are in Montréal, and all the pants are designed and made in Québec. The company stocks over 90,000 units in their warehouse in Montréal, which ensures a quick delivery to hundreds of retailers in North America.
Aéro Montréal, Québec’s aerospace cluster, and the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Aerospace in Québec (CRIAQ), signed two major strategic cooperation agreements in September with the Ohio Aerospace Institute. Since it was actively involved in reaching these agreements, the Québec Government Office in Chicago was represented at the signing by Éric Marquis, who assisted in initiating these new partnerships.
The Government of Québec launched its Economic Policy Putting Jobs First on October 7. One of the objectives of the policy is to attract foreign investments and stimulate exports. The policy should generate nearly $13 billion in public and private investments over the next 10 years.
With support from the Québec Government Office in Chicago, eleven booking agents representing 36 Québec shows participated in the 2012 Midwest Arts Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in September. This celebration of the performing arts brings together some 1,000 performing artists, booking agents and presenters from the United States and Canada each year.
Québec Government Representative in Chicago, Éric Marquis, together with the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance and the Economy, Alain Therrien, and the MNA for Marquette, François Ouimet, participated in the annual meeting of the Council of State Governments (CSG), held from September 19 to 22 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Every year, several Great Lakes organizations and governmental agencies from the U.S. and Canada come together for Great Lakes Week, a series of prominent meetings and conferences centered on the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes. This year, Great Lakes Week was hosted in Milwaukee, WI and featured the Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes Coalition conference, the Great Lakes Commission’s annual meeting, the Great Lakes Summit, and the International Joint Commission’s triennial meeting and public forums.
This year’s Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition & Conference (WEFTEC) will be held at Chicago’s McCormick Place from Oct. 5th - 9th. The event is the largest annual water quality exhibition in the world, and 16 Québec companies will be in attendance, 12 as exhibitors, to share their expertise and innovative solutions for efficient and ecological water and waste water treatment and management.
How do you get to work? If it’s a commuter or subway rail, high-speed train, streetcar or even a plane, chances are it’s made by Bombardier. The CTA, the United States’ second-largest public transportation system, brokered a deal for 714 new rail cars from Bombardier’s 5000 Model Series in a contract valued at just under $1 Billion US ($964 Million). The new cars are in the process of being built and delivered, with more than 300 having already been put into service on the Green, Pink and Red Lines. Raymond Bachant, the president of Bombardier Transportation North America, commented on the deal between the Chicago Transit Authority and the Montréal giant:
“We are proud to be a partner with CTA in providing modern, efficient and environmentally-friendly transportation to the citizens of Chicago. These orders illustrate the continued confidence CTA places in Bombardier and our products.”
Twelve fiction feature films, two documentaries, nine short films, a literary workshop and a music lesson are just a few of the items on the menu at Cinéma du Québec à Paris, which was initiated by the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) with a number of partners, including the Québec Government Office in Paris.
With an average of 10 ft. of snow every season, almost 90 stations, night skiing unlike anywhere else in North America and the feeling of a never-ending celebration... it’s no wonder that a million skiers hit Québec’s slopes each winter! Québec participated in the annual meeting of the Great Lakes Commission in Cleveland, Ohio, September 10 and 11, 2012. This regional forum, which brings together eight American states (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York) as well as Québec and Ontario, focuses on shared issues of concern such as water resources management, the environment, aquatic nuisance species, maritime transportation and the regional economy.
The Government of Québec has announced the creation of the Abdou-Diouf Bursaries in honour of IOF Secretary-General Abdou-Diouf’s contribution to the development of La Francophonie and, more particularly, his commitment to young people.

As September draws to a close, the forests draw on their fiery cloaks, dazzling everyone with their brilliant reds, yellows and oranges. All around, vines and orchards are ripe with fruit, and clouds of snow geese fill the skies in a pre-Christmas pageant!
